Where to Stay

Shockingly, Elburn does not have a single hotel in it.  So where can you, our friends and family, stay after celebrating our nuptials?  Here are some options!  This post will also be permanently under the heading Ceremony and Reception. We are not reserving a block of rooms because there is no one ideal hotel for all our guests and none are particularly near the wedding. Plus you can get such a better deal without a block reserved!

How I asked my bridesmaids to be, well, bridesmaids

Well, I have my beautiful bridesmaids all picked out and they have all agreed to put up with my madness, as you have seen from previous posts.  And I wanted to share how I formally asked them to be bridesmaids!

Mmmmm. Bridesmaid Wine.

Wine!

I was able to give the gift to my lovely college roomies in person.  However, my beautiful bridesmaids Michelle and Lyndsie received a video message of my request, and a promise for these to be delivered at a future date.

I got shipping stickers from the local office store, made up some labels, bought some yummy wine, and found perfect coordinating bags in yellow and green!  Success!

I also had the snag of having two underaged attendants, one of which being my MOA/sister.  For Emma and Kristen I made little flip picture books with pics of us through the years together, asking them to stand up for me at the end.  My sister turns 21 this weekend though, so maybe she’ll get a bottle of wine too.

Let’s Find a Dress!

Let me just say, that shopping for The Dress is a whole lot of fun.  Also, exhausting.  But it is done and I am so thrilled with the outcome.  I got the perfect dress, and in my price range to boot!

Mom, Emma, and I went shopping about 2 months ago.  We had two stops on our list, David’s Bridal, and a smaller boutique in Aurora.  For all the bad things I have heard about David’s Bridal’s service I must say that we had a wonderful experience there!  The consultant was polite, enthusiastic, and attentive.  I’m sure it didn’t hurt that we went during a week day when it was not crazy busy.  I feel like I tried on A MILLION DRESSES.  We took some pics of a few.  I will show you the NO dresses, but not my dress of course.

Obviously, this is not me.  We did not take a picture of me in the first dress I tried on.  I had been convinced for MONTHS that this would be the dress.  I loved the bow, that it was Shantung Taffeta (= not shiny and also more casual), and it had POCKETS.  Unfortunately, where the waist hit me was not flattering.  I still think it is a super awesome dress though!

This was the third dress I tried on.  I actually liked this dress a lot.  As you can see it was a one-shoulder number with flowers on the strap.  I liked it because it was so light!  It would definitely keep me cool on a hot summer day.  However, we all agreed that is a beautiful white dress, but did not look bridal on me.

Too grecian, although I do love grecian dresses, but not on me.  I believe I am saying here, “where are the pockets?”  I love pockets.

Grecian again, and it made me look W I D E.  Comfy though.

Then I tried on a million more.  I kept going back to the second dress I tried on though…

I have no pictures from the boutique, because as soon as we walked in a realized I couldn’t even afford dresses from the clearance rack!  And they were more “mature” looking dresses than I wanted.  Plus I was already EXHAUSTED.  Who new trying on dresses was so tiring.

About a month an a half later mom and I went BACK to David’s Bridal.  I tried on my favorite from last visit, and it was still PERFECT.  I also tried on a few more to be sure.  Here is one…

Apparently I was a little goofy by then.

Anyways, we went with the second dress I ever tried on.  While I’m not going to SHOW you, I will give away a few details.  Like the first dress, it is Shantung taffeta.  It will be ivory.  And it has POCKETS.  And now I feel like we can finally cross SOMETHING off the wedding to-do list!

Wedding Colors

For a summery wedding feel we are going with Yellow and Green.  Makes me think of lemons and limes, which makes me thirsty!  We are gonna be an ivory bunch, instead of white.  And we’re gonna accent with a little tangerine.  Here’s out palate: Here’s some wedding inspiration: I hope you all like it!
